From the flower songs of the Nahua and a 500-year-old process comes a tequila refined by nature. As elegant as water, stone, and agave, Casa Natima’s first original tequila was conceived for tequila drinkers seeking an intriguing taste in tequila and an enigmatic story.

The tale of Laelia is rooted in antiquity: it draws its identity from an elegant, delicate orchid, renowned for its ability to withstand challenging conditions while preserving its beauty. Native to the eastern mountain ranges of Mexico, the Laelia orchid was celebrated for generations in the prehispanic flower songs of the Nahua people—sacred, ceremonial meditations on life, love, and friendship.

Drawing inspiration from this magnificent flower, Laelia Tequila aims to preserve the beauty of tequila making traditions, from the cultivation of Blue Weber Agave to the artisanal distillation process, creating a deep connection to our ancestors, our land, and our culture.

Laelia Tequila is a smooth, Agave-forward tequila crafted from fully mature, tahona-crushed Agave and mineral-rich mountain spring water, which is then distilled in handmade copper pot stills and rested in American and French White Oak barrels.

Yet, Laelia is efficient in its methods. Casa Natima is a 100% Mexican owned, world-class distillery that holds the NOM 1607, reflecting a commitment to excellence in its process.

Casa Natima & the Art of Tequila Making

Laelia’s making process begins in the volcanic soil of the Valles Region, in Amatitán, Jalisco, located in the heart of “El Valle”—the Valley region of Jalisco. To guarantee high-quality and traceability, Casa Natima’s jimadores harvest the Blue Agave plants only when it is fully mature—a minimum of six years.

The strength of the sun and the complexity of the soil give rise to the Blue Agave fields. The land sits at low altitude, and the water comes from mountain springs, running through the mantle and rocks. This mineral rich climate produces a Blue Agave with rich, earthy, herbal qualities, bringing unique characteristics and a more efficient sugar conversion.

Once harvested, the agave is slowly cooked in traditional brick ovens at low temperatures (90 to 95°C or 194º to 203ºF) for 48 hours  to maintain the nutritional richness of the agave. Afterwards, the cooked Agave is crushed using a stone mill, or tahona, a two-ton volcanic stone wheel. This generations-old method, combined with the pristine mountain spring water, provides a unique flavor profile that stays true to tradition, preserving the rich, earthy notes of the Blue Agave plant.

Laelia’s natural fermentation process is another key element of our Tequila’s unique flavor. The Agave juice is fermented with a portion of Agave fibers, naturally providing the necessary yeasts and microorganisms.

Laelia Tequila is distilled in traditional copper pot stills, which enhance the sweet and fruity notes of the Agave. During the second distillation, our Master Distiller, Carlos R. Huízar, carefully oversees the process, transforming this spirit into a clean, smooth, crystalline tequila.
