In 2026, Casa Natima is launching Señora Leona, a 100% organic tequila that honors Mexico’s history, culture, and indomitable spirit. Inspired by the historical figure of Leona Vicario, a heroine of Mexico’s War of Independence and recognized as the Mother of the Nation, Señora Leona was created as a tribute to those who choose to act with courage, defend their convictions, and build community.

Born of rebellion, shaped by culture

The Señora Leona profile was created by master distiller Carlos R. Huízar and is produced in accordance with NOM 1607. Huízar leads the process with respect for tradition, supported by a team of experts who know the land, the agave, and their craft. From agave cultivation to bottling, the entire process is carried out in-house, ensuring total control, traceability, and Mexican authenticity. The agave used comes from Casa Natima’s own fields in the Valles de Jalisco region, where volcanic soils impart mineral depth and a robust character to the distillate.

Our process

Crafted with deep respect for tequila-making traditions, Señora Leona’s identity is built on traditional methods and conscious production decisions:

  • Fully mature blue agave grown in volcanic soils in the Valles region.

  • Cooked in autoclave ovens for 14 hours.

  • Milled using a traditional stone mill.

  • Open fermentation that allows native yeasts to interact with the agave juices, creating an authentic, earthy, wild, and natural profile.

  • Use of mineral-rich volcanic spring water.

  • Double distilled in copper stills.

  • Bottled at 84 proof.

Leona Vicario, the inspiration

Señora Leona takes its name from Leona Vicario, a journalist, strategist, and key figure in the insurgency that began in 1810. As a member of the secret network known as Los Guadalupes, Leona financed the independence movement, relayed strategic information, and withstood colonial pressure without betraying her ideals.

In 1842, she was officially declared a Benemérita and Dulcísima Madre de la Patria, and today her remains rest at the Angel of Independence alongside the national heroes. Her legacy inspires a tequila that celebrates independence of thought and collective strength.
